The Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport (PSAMA) is located in the beautiful Township of Seguin and the Town of Parry Sound. The airport services Georgian Bay and the Muskoka Lakes.The PSAMA opened in the spring of 1979 and is capable of accommodating air carriers, corporate jets and general aviation planes. The PSAMA'’s runway is 4,000'” with a 290”' by 320'” Apron and medium-intensity airfield lighting. The PSAMA has a float plane base located on Robert’'s Lake connected to the airport via a private access road. PSAMA is a popular re-fuelling destination for Air Ambulance, Hydro One Helicopters, Ontario Provincial Police and Search & Rescue.The PSAMA terminal is opened from 9:00am to 4:00pm seven days a week. There is ample parking in both the long and short term lots, located just outside the terminal. The terminal currently offers a pilot's lounge, flight planning station, wireless internet and a friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a home cooked meal at Wing'’s Airport Café. Wing’'s Café is open seven days a week from 9:00am to 2:00pm with indoor and outdoor seating.

History of the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport

Construction of the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport commenced in 1978, the airport was officially opened in the spring of 1979. The airport facilities consisted of a 3,000' Runway, 200' by 250' apron, a connecting taxiway, access road, and a float plane base at Robert's Lake. In 1981 medium-–intensity airfield lighting was installed. The terminal building was constructed in 1983 and in 1984 an airport master plan was carried out. In 1985 the runway was extended an additional 999ft. And a non-directional beacon was installed on the extended runway centerline. Lawrence Aero Enterprise was the first business on the field in 1982, followed by Found Aircraft Canada Inc. (1999) and B.P Flight Training Inc. (2001).Phase 1 of the airport expansion project was completed in 2007. Included in this expansion were 18 private hangars on the east side, extensive infrastructure upgrades and the terminal's addition. Furthermore, the addition of AXT Machine & Tool started the beginning of the “PSAMA Industrial Park”. 2007 also produced the airport strategic plan which was developed and implemented by the end of the year.By the end of 2008 Phase 2 of the expansion project was completed. The industrial park infrastructure was upgraded to accommodate Pro Safe Fire Training Systems Inc., Power Products and Project X, as well as future businesses that wish to take root in our quickly growing industrial park.The terminal currently offers a pilot’'s lounge, flight planning station, wireless internet and a friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a home cooked meal at Wing’'s Airport Café. Wing’'s Café is open seven days a week from 9:00am to 2:00pm with indoor and outdoor seating. Phase 3… Currently in the planning stage for more private hangars and commercial facilities, coming soon.

The search and seizure operation began at approximately midday when officers of the special tactical unit from North Bay arrived unannounced at the airport as a small convoy that included a helicopter and a cargo truck, rousing staff curiosity. "You could definitely tell something was going on", said airport manager Neil Pirie. Instead, the Air Canada pilot is lying in bed with a shattered heel thankful to be alive. Bailey, 57, of Clarkson, spoke today (Aug. 24) about the plane crash he survived on Aug. 9. The small aircraft he had built with a friend, complete with a 150-horsepower, roof-mounted engine, lost power moments after take-off on a test flight from the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport.
